Who We Are
Mission
ARCHS leverages student-driven projects, expert educators, and community partners to develop innovative life-long learners prepared to build a sustainable future.
Vision
Through the project process, learners acquire the skills to navigate institutional pathways and nurture relationships with community partners to attain a shared goal, laying the groundwork for a fulfilling life beyond high school.
Goals
Academic: All students will improve three or more points on the ACT during their career at ARCHS.
Post-secondary Transition: Each student will graduate with a personalized post-graduate plan with defined next-steps and timelines.
Community Engagement: Establish and maintain active partnerships with at least five local organizations to foster use of community resources by the students and families we serve.
Educator Retention: Retain expert educators who are masters in their chosen areas of study through professional compensation, collaborative leadership, and transparent evaluation practices.
History
In the summer of 2024, co-founders Bounrod Xiong and her colleague formally began the design process of Action Research Community High School (ARCHS). Having taught in a variety of schools in Milwaukee at the elementary through high school levels, they shared a deep-seeded dissatisfaction with the status quo of educational institutions falling short to meet the needs of students, especially post-pandemic.
So, they set out to design a school model for high school students in Milwaukee intent on meeting students where they’re at, graduating them with clear plans for adulthood, and doing it with other like-minded educators and community members who desire a dignified approach to education for students and educators.
